XR.Botanica

A series of workshops exploring participatory diary practices that draws on oral and personal histories through collaborative VR painting, botanical illustration, and digital design. Following a phygital process – a dynamic back-and-forth between the digital and the physical – the work gets materialized through a plethora of techniques including pottery, sewing, embroidery, poetry and painting.

Using poetry, soundscapes and virtual reality this exhibition immerses audiences into an Augmented Reality experience to raise awareness on migration, exile and dislocation.

Co-facilitated by artists Michelle Ezeuko and Lara Kobeissi, participants were invited to engage with sculpture and new technologies as conduits to offer asylum seekers moments of joy, laughter, respite and playfulness through conversations about football or music.

Developed in 2022-23, aimed at teaching participants collaborative VR painting using Multiplayer tools and 3D scanning techniques as they participate in creating a communal 3D sculpture.

Participants 3D scan objects that hold significant value to them. These items are brought into the virtual space. They share their stories attached to the items with each other as they paint.
